A widely prevalent, widely practiced, and widely praised philosophy of the West is -

‘You want something - go get it’

The foundation of numerous motivational and educational curricula of the West is this one line, the main theorem of many Hollywood movies is - Life is a dream, you chase it.

In this single line, which is inspiring at first glance, the code of the West's downfall is written. To understand the contrast, let us observe a verse. Allah says -

But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination, Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge. (An-Nazi'at: 40-41)

This is one of the fundamental differences between Western consumerist philosophy and Islam. Where the West considers letting go of the reins as worldly success, Islam recognizes pulling the reins as ultimate success.
